Harbour Island
Or "Briland" as it is known by it's residents is one of the oldest settlements in The Bahamas, and it was the first capital of The Bahamas. The first settlement in Harbour Island was founded more than 300 years ago, more than 100 years before the United States becam a nation.
The island is 3 miles long by 1 mile wide and the first residents where mainly shipbuilders and farmers. In the late 1800s Dunmore Town was a wellknown and respected sugar refinement and shipbuilding centre.
Harbour Island is also known for it's soft, pink sandy beaches, the most beautiful beaches in The Bahamas.
